Lessons from Ruth on the Character of God

I have been preparing for my upcoming sermon series on the book of Ruth and am finding it incredibly challenging. One of the early lessons from this powerful little book is that we can never doubt God’s providence even when He seems silent and times are dark. God was providentially working His plan in the lives of these ordinary women caught up min extraordinary circumstances although it was not immediately apparent.
This reminds me that it is most difficult to see God’s providence when we are in the midst of it. It is so important to seek understanding of God’s character and ways before we find ourselves in difficult times. We must never fall into the trap of evaluating God through the lens of our experience, but must evaluate our experiences in light of God’s revealed truth.
