A Thought on John 10 from Alexander MacLaren

John 10:9 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

One does not know whether the width or the depth of this marvelous promise is more noteworthy.  Jesus Christ presents himself here before the whole race of man, and declares himself able to deal with the needs of every individual in the tremendous whole.  ‘If any man’ – no matter who, where, when.

For all noble and happy life there are at least three things needed: security, sustenance, and a field for exercise of activity. To provide these is the end of all human society and government. Jesus Christ here says that he can give all these to everyone.

From the sermon, “The Gifts to the Flock,” by Alexander MacLaren, in Vol. 10 of Expositions of Holy Scripture.

  1. Teresa says:

“Don’t be embarrassed by how needy your heart is and how much it needs to cry out for grace” – Paul Miller (Just read this chapter and your quote made me think of what Paul Miller said.) God is Good!
